In Collaboration With TAO [Transformative Architectural Office]
Client: Herampey Consulting Engineers + Children of the SKY Charity
Role: Senior Architect + Project Manager
Charity supported competition of “Bachehaye Aseman” (The children of the sky), was held to build a treatment and maintenance center for cerebral palsy children. The budget was limited and the client’s needs were not feasible by the existing budget. Besides, this was not an ordinary building; specific spatial features were needed to provide a safe and healthy environment for these kids. Some of them would not move for their whole life. What is life without sitting in a garden and looking at the blue sky?
Due to the client’s demands and the urban zoning regulations on FAR [Floor Area Ratio], the proposed building is a five-story with inserted courtyards in each level to optimize the accessibility of all the children in various conditions to open space. In addition to the architectural strategies to provide an isolated safe environment for the kids, the larger urban strategy was to attract the public and raise their awareness by connecting the ground floor with the city by implementing a café, a lounge, and a conference hall on the city level.
