+[Social Housing] Rafsanjan _ 2018
In Collaboration With TAO [Transformative Architectural Office]
Client: Municipality of Rafsanjan City + Urban Development and Revitalization of Iran
Role: Senior Architect + Project Manager
The Rafsanjan social housing project started with demographic research and a survey from the neighbors to scrutinize the palimpsest of the site, and the crucial needs of the future residents and locals. The site, as part of a historical context of Rafsanjan, is located in the heart of an old and worn-out urban tissue with limited accessibility and inadequate urban facilities to provide primary needs of the locals and it has become a refugee neighborhood for Afghan immigrants. The building is an abandoned ruin in which kids play during the day and addicts find shelter during the night.
The project is part of a larger urban regeneration program in a couple of central cities of Iran proposed by their municipalities. Our proposal was developed based on merging the public and private life in standardized apartments contextualized by the Iranian lifestyle.
