In Collaboration With TAO [Transformative Architectural Office]
Client: Karaj Water Organization
Role: Senior Architect + Project Manager
Karaj water headquarters This project started with an important limit. The site was located in the restricted area of The Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization. The height of the building was limited to 3 floors and for an iconic and sculptural building which was the demand of the client, it was such a limit. The client of this project was looking after a program to upload on the project to fulfill the objectives of their development plans and to pay attention to their social responsibilities plans. During the studies, we developed a strategy based on their organizational breakdown structure and cultural plans. Some of the examples of their specific needs are the Water Museum and Water Library. They were focused on their branding plans with “water” as their icon. As part of our efforts, we started a negotiation with The Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization to reconsider the limitations for the building height. The project includes a masterplan, which is affected by the positioning of the old trees. One of our important considerations during the process of design was the garden inside the site. Karaj is the city of gardens and some of these gardens are yet at the service of the public. We decided to keep every single tree alive and in position. So the most important parameter affecting the geometry of the plan is the trees. Our approach was to look for the future of this organization and its human resources. We observed their needs and proposed an educational extension for employees’ children. The final record of the project was a total success for the organization as they were happy with both the program and the building.
