BORZ-e-SABZ
+[Vertical Garden] Karaj _ 2015
In Collaboration With TAO [Transformative Architectural Office]
Client: Municipality of Karaj City + Urban Development and Revitalization of Iran
Role: Senior Architect + Project Manager
Borz-E-Sabz [Borz=Burj, in Farsi means tower; Borz-e-Sabz=Green Tower] project was originally defined as an urban regeneration project which was proposed to the urban development and revitalization organization of Iran. Since then the economic feasibility has been a challenging issue for the organization to find a private investor to collaborate with. The history of the city is merged with agriculture and farming, it was called the “Garden City”, but currently only a few gardens are yet at service of the city. Throughout the design process, our main objective was to redefine the concept of gardens as the main attractor, which would shape the city, its networks, and infrastructures. We suggested the garden as a vertical tower, which is a transformed version of the primitive gardens. The green tower “The Borz” is estimated to be the Karaj’s first landmark with its intrinsic identity. It is a mixed-used project surrounded by a bike line at a level higher than the city which we believe could be the start point of a bike-pedestrian loop all around the city with stations in specific nodes to reconnect the city with its history and reflect it’s a sustainable future.
